2009 Freethought & Rationalism Fundraiser
Help us keep FRDB going strong. Make a single or subscription donation to get a "Donor Tag" displayed on all your posts and in your member profile! Donations are currently not tax-deductible, but that will change sometime in 2009. You may notice that the goal for this year is less than for previous years. That is because a less expensive option for a dedicated server has been purchased. Collected: $1,595.00 -- Goal: $5,000.00

We are at 31.9% of our goal!

Default Announcing: Coalition of Secular Voters

I've just created a new organization and website called Coalition of Secular Voters.

While there are other groups out there, such as FFRF, Secular Coalition for America, and Americans United, etc., this group and this website fill a very specific niche and need.

This group and website are focused specifically on issues of voting and legislation, namely encouraging citizens who support separation of church and state to vote and get involved in the legislative process at every level, and in providing a means for such voters to stay informed about the latest legislative issues in their local areas as well as at the national level.

http://www.secularvoters.org/

I hope that everyone who supports the mission of this group will at least join the website, even if you don't plan to contribute content, because part of building a coalition is building numbers that politicians can see are important. Not only is the mission of this group to help secular voters become more active voters, but also to make the secular voting community more visible and thus influential.

You need to review whether or not you need to follow any campaign laws. If you take money to run the website and then endorse or guide people away from certain candidates you might be required to follow certain campaign laws.

Better safe than sorry.

No money has been taken, asked for, given, or received

There is also no intention of endorsing any candidate, although I personally support Obama.

Ah, very cool! I respect your ambition. I signed up, hopefully I might be able to contribute in the future. Seriously, good luck with this, I hope it gets off the ground!

Yeah, you better have/get a lawyer, Malachi151. Are you one?

Good idea, though. Hope it takes off like a rocket! Looks good!

#1) No money is changing hands and no endorsements are taking place.
#2) While I don't officially have one, I am close friends with the assistant DA who is also a member of our local atheist group....
